The mosquitoes in Korea and sneaky and ruthless. In Canada, the mosquitoes bite you once and then leave you alone. Not here! I get multiple bites from a single bug. They always seem to attack when I’m sleeping at 4:00 am. Once I hear the buzzing sound, I’m awake. I can’t sleep until I find it and kill it.
Since I’d rather not have my sleep disrupted by a tiny insect, I prefer to deter them from coming into my room in the first place. I’ve tried all the chemical methods available in Korea and a mosquito net over my bed, but I prefer a natural more body and time-friendly solution. My favourite method, which is also very easy, is to use citronella oil.
I like to use an oil burner, but a fancy electric diffuser is on my wish list. Before going to bed, I just fill the top of the diffuser with water and add about 3 drops of citronella oil. Then light the candle underneath. It doesn’t even have to burn for that long, just enough time for the citronella aroma to fill the air. And as a bonus, the candle light creates a soothing atmosphere before sleep.
In the past, I’ve always ordered my essential oils online, but I recently stumbled upon some reasonably priced oils at the Express Bus Terminal underground shopping area.
Hopefully this method will work for you. I’d love to hear your feedback!
